The Next Projects in the Pipeline – funding being sought

1. High Street

The first project gleaned from the results of the Healthcheck was the need for a review of the many uses of the High Street in order to plan for its varied functions and uses and implement the agreed proposals.  In the case of V1.1 Access for Cars and Lorries, new waiting restrictions were introduced in 2006 with a more efficient routine for closing and opening the barrier and regular checks by traffic wardens.  A survey carried out six months later showed that the majority of the public thought that access to the High Street was much improved. A summary of the results of the survey can be seen here. The remaining parts of V1.1 are now in the process of being tackled together with V1.2-6. More Details

2. Church Street

A key element of Objective 1 to review and implement a Town Centre improvement plan is Project V2 “To revitalise the Theatre entrance and adjacent Church Street area”. Project SC7.1 to look for areas/venues for informal meeting and socialising, such as the Theatre and street plaza areas complements V2.

During 2007 an urban designer was employed to develop a masterplan following the facilitation of stakeholder and public consultations. The chosen design was adopted by the SCC Local Committee for Mole Valley in September, with officer recommendations for the next stage. This awaits SCC Highways allocation of staff, funds and the prioritising of Church Street in county-wide projects. More Details

3. A Hopper Bus Scheme - TA2.2 and TA2.3

The villages of Ashtead, Bookham and Fetcham have commuters who experience difficulty in travelling to their nearest station except by car or cycle.  The 479 bus is a means by which some reach the stations in the mornings but it stops too early in the evenings for the homeward journey.  A sub-committee of Ashtead Residents' Association has now started to investigate the feasibility and viability of a regular hopper bus for commuters to and from Ashtead Station.  When complete, their investigations and findings will be shared with Bookham and Fetcham RAs.
